LATEST Kalundu Study Centre welcomes new students for Leadership and Formation Course - Class of 2024 ...... ZAS Orients Sisters trained in Social Work with Support from GHR Foundation to help in the implementation of Counselling activities under the Catholic Care for Children in Zambia (CCCZ) Project

Kalundu Study Centre

The Kalundu Study Centre was constructed in 1971 by Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC), now Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops with the help of Missio. This was in response to the request for help by the Zambia Association of Sisterhoods (ZAS) to build suitable accommodations for the Religious Sisters who were studying at the University of Zambia ( UNZA) as there were inadequate student hostels at the University.   When UNZA build hostels and the student sisters were accommodated there, the Kalundu hostels were no longer needed as hostels for student sisters. Upon discernment by ZEC and ZAS, it was agreed that it should be utilized to answer the need for formation for the sisters. In 1974, ZAS began a programme for the formation of Novices in the second year as well as preparation for their first profession.   Based on this experience, ZAS decided to introduce the Formation and Leadership Course for Formators in 1977 which targeted both national and continental participants. Different Congregations were managing agencies and up to 2017 the centre has trained over 1,100 sisters in Leadership and Formation from all over Africa.   Kalundu Study Centre continues to respond to the diverse needs of the sisters within and outside the country by offering short and long courses to respond to the emerging needs in various congregations and in society. In the ZAS Diamond Jubilee year 2018, ZAS made a decision to have an inter-congregation community to manage Kalundu Study Centre.
